While podcasting is the central theme, the whole spectrum of new media has its place at PodCamp Montreal. To give you an idea of what is possible, PodCamp Toronto saw sessions on Twitter, Facebook apps, ooVoo, crisis management blogging, etc. If you’re interested in social media, you’ll be interested in PodCamp Montreal. Plus, it’s Montreal, for god’s sake. What’s not to love?

I think it’s important to note that the sessions are what the crowd makes them. If everyone signs up fast to present only on podcasting, then we have a podcasting only conference. Lately it seems as if the veterans are not as interested in talking about podcasting as much as they were a year ago, and because they are the experienced names they start trends and other people start talking about podcasting less as well. This will then affect the crowd that attends. I’m speaking of the crowd who attends based on the schedule. there are those people, like myself, who attend because of the community.
There seem to be more sessions about things *not* closely related to podcasting, like Facebook or Twitter or whatever; at least that has happened at PodCamp Toronto or PAB in the past. Since the concept of PodCamp is fairly new here in Montreal, we wanted to make sure everybody gets that they are the ones in control of what this event is about.
Obviously, podcasting will be in everyone’s mind, but PodCamp is what the speakers and attendees make of it. As a wise man once said : “An unconference means we are the ones making the choices. #pcmtl it is!â€
I’ll be there one way or another, and I’m always talking about podcasting so there will be at least one! That is what happened at PodCamp Boston too.
All that said, from a personal standpoint (and not speaking on behalf of the organizing committee) it would be nice if people presenting on non-podcasting subjects made an effort to include something about podcasting in their presentations.
ex: If you’re going to do a Twitter presentation, consider tackling it from a ‘how do you use Twitter to promote your podcast and build a community of listeners’ point of view. Or at least try to incorporate podcasting in some way in part of your presentation.
And I really hope the podcasting community does step up to offer to lead a good number sessions — be they presentations or panels — Montreal could do with an infusion of podcasting energy. Not enough people know about it here and it would be great to see people leave PodCamp Montreal inspired to go out and start a podcast of their own.
I want to be able to listen to more French podcasts, damnit!
Cheers
Michelle
